Alternative Provision
We have split our groupings up to make it more accessible for all.

What will our Alternative Provision Offer?

As a maximum, children and young adults can only attend our setting for 2 days a week. We will also require a timetable of other activities and provisions the young person is accessing to allow us to be confident that we are not operating as an illegal school, but also to work with other providers to ensure a cohesive package of support for all our learners.

Nurture

A programme designed for children who need a lot more support within a setting. This programme runs on a Monday and a Thursday at The Hub in Hathern and our Haven site in Shepshed. It delivers a child interest led curriculum with enrichment activities that push the learning from outside the home setting, but within a homely environment.

We offer AQA Unit Awards, Art Awards and Open Awards alongside our Primary and Key stage 3 curriculum to ensure that our learners have access to a broad range of educational options. We design all our lessons to be accessible, fun and engaging ensuring a relevant and diverse offer that is inclusive and retains links to the education delivered in schools.

Upskill

A tailored programme for children who are advancing in their educational journey but still benefit from additional support. Learners will work towards recognised qualifications such as AQA Unit Awards, Open Awards or Arts Awards, while also studying the core subjects – Maths, English & PSHE, as a standard part of the programme. Depending on each child’s individual needs, we will support them in working towards either GCSEs or Functional Skills. This programme runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with learners able to attend up to two days per week at either our Hathern or Shepshed site.

NCFE

We are an approved NCFE exam centre delivering NCFE courses in a range of subjects including functional skills Maths and English.

We have a successful pass rate and teach and assess at Entry Level through to Level 2.

We offer bespoke pathways and exam packages to learners that may not be able to attend our provision. Please enquire for more details and funding options.

GCSE Programmes

We have qualified teachers to teach and support learners that are working towards GCSE. We work closely with schools to ensure that we are delivering teaching on the same texts in English and develop the skills required to pass exams.

We create groupings that enable us to target those learners that are following a GCSE pathway and focus their education at this level.

Additionally, we deliver core subject key skills in all of our secondary level teaching to ensure that learners are given the best chance to attain the qualifications that will enable them to progress.

Life Skills

At The Hub, we focus on equipping every learner with the life skills they need to succeed, both now and in the future. Our programmes build independence through practical experiences such as accessing the community, using public transport, understanding road safety, and managing budgeting and finances. Learners also gain vital independent living skills, including personal hygiene, cookery, baking, nutrition, and exercise, which promote healthy lifestyles and long-term wellbeing.

Alongside these practical elements, we place equal importance on emotional and social skills. Through therapeutic play, community projects, and activities that develop confidence and resilience, learners learn how to build relationships, communicate effectively, and engage positively with others.

We also nurture creativity and self-expression through craft, art, drama, languages, music, woodwork, and design technology, ensuring learners develop problem-solving abilities, confidence, and adaptability. By weaving together academic, social, creative, and practical opportunities, The Hub creates a holistic environment where essential life skills are at the heart of everything we do.

Horizons 16+

As part of our Horizons 16+ offer we support all our learners through a range of different qualifications to peak their interests. By integrating Open Awards, AQA qualifications, and Art Awards, we tailor the learning package to meet the unique needs of our students, fostering their confidence, independence and future aspirations.

Our Horizons 16+ provision creates a nurturing, inclusive environment where every young person feels valued and supported. The focus is not just on academic achievement but also on emotional growth, self-confidence and skills for independent living. This holistic approach lays the foundation for brighter, more fulfilling futures.

Horizons 16+ runs over two days on Wednesday and Friday.

Our Aims & Objectives

The Hub aims to deliver education to learners that find accessing mainstream education problematic. We tailor education packages to ensure that all our learners receive a quality education that accommodates their needs and interests. We offer a broad curriculum ensuring that learners can select an educational journey that aligns with their hopes and aspirations. In addition to this,  we offer support to parents whose children are struggling in mainstream education or are undergoing any form of diagnosis that will impact the learner’s education.

We offer emotional and practical support that will continue once diagnosis is formed to provide ongoing support to families and learners.

Our tailored education packages are supported by social and emotional learning to deliver an holistic approach for our learners. At The Hub, we believe that the social and emotional development of our learners is as important as their education so we incorporate behaviour and wellbeing support as well as emotional literacy sessions in both groups and 1:1.
